Response to Covid 19

March 24, 2020
Dear Massillon Epworth Family, I hope that you are all staying safe and healthy during this time.
Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Health Director Dr. Amy Acton have mandated no gatherings of more than 50 people and strongly encouraged none above 10, as well as closing and restricting businesses. Painful as it is, we are suspending in-person worship to save lives. We do not know how long this will need to last in order to protect others from this highly contagious virus that is more deadly to some than others. We will continue to LiveStream the service on the church’s Facebook page, Epworth United Methodist Church. We are also trying to post the service to the church’s webpage at http://www.massillonepworthumc.com.
We know that members are facing income loss from either job loss or stock market loss. Please continue to send in your offerings as you are able. The church’s regular expenses continue throughout this time and we need your offerings to meet our expenses. These offerings make a huge a difference. We urge people to be faithful in giving and prudent in spending. You can mail in your offerings (3061 Lincoln Way, NW, Massillon, 44647), or drop them off at the church during office hours. We are currently researching electronic giving and will provide further information once we have it. We must care for people first. We are closely monitoring our church bank balances.
Our Day Care has been granted a temporary pandemic license and we are monitoring daily whether they will be able to remain open. We are currently operating with a reduced staff and a reduced number of children.
Until further notice, Frances will continue to work in the church office Monday-Thursday 9 am to noon.
If you need to contact Pastor Les, please reach out to him by one of the following methods:
Email: lespeine@me.com; Cell Phone: 330.284.6531; Home Phone: 330.938.7704.
To be honest, we don’t know what will be asked of us in the coming days. We will all have to adapt to the changes we can’t yet foresee – and we will do so knowing that God both cares for us and will provide what we need.
In Christ’s Love,
Nate Lockwood
Church Council Chair
